From 2010 to 2015, I worked as a mechanical engineer at Buro Happold Engineering. I specialized in sustainable HVAC design, and contributed to multiple LEED certified building, both new construction and renovations — check out some of my favorite projects below.
Mohammed Indimi International Business Center
Lynn University, Boca Raton, FL
I led the mechanical design on this building by Gensler Architects, during both design and construction. To achieve the strict LEED Platinum status, the heating and cooling systems needed to be extremely energy efficient — a difficult task in hot, humid Boca Raton. The final design recovered heat from the interior spaces to help dehumidify the outdoor air, and incorporated active chilled beams to allow for individual temperature control of each classroom and conference room. The building was officially designated LEED Platinum in October 2016.
76 E Houston St
New York, NY
As the project lead, I was the point of contact to the contractors and developers for this retail space in New York City’s historic SoHo neighborhood. I managed the project’s timelines and deliverables, along with producing the drawings and specifications for construction
Squash Center
Middlebury College, Middlebury, VT
The architectural focus of the new squash center by ARC was a large skylight over the central spectator area. The ventilation system I designed used the recessed skylight as a plenum to pull return air up from the densely occupied space below, taking advantage of the natural buoyancy of air.
In 2014, this building received a LEED Platinum designation.
Residential Colleges
Yale University, New Haven, CT
Designed by Robert AM Stern Architects, these two sprawling residential colleges contain over 450,000 sq. ft. of floor space. The large scale made designing towards a LEED Gold certification even more challenging, requiring precise thermal calculations for each room. The pumps, heat exchangers, and other equipment needed to be carefully selected to integrate into both the existing campus utilities and the new geothermal heat pump system. I contributed to many aspects of the project — including thermal calculations, equipment selection, writing specifications, room layouts, and weekly coordination meetings with the architects.
