With these shelves, I wanted to make use of the space under the kitchen counter. The counter appeared to have been designed for barstools, but the height was too low and the overhang too shallow to sit comfortably. I picked white pine boards the match the cabinets, and notched the ends to fit the existing moulding and the shape of the counter above. I used three dowel rods for vertical supports, stretching from the floor to the underside of the counter, to emphasize its “built-in” look.
